Mt. Logan

We went on a ride up to Mt. Logan with Roger and Marilyn yesterday and it was a lot of fun.  This is actually a really nice and easy ride.  It was 17 miles up to the mountain top from where we parked our cars.  Along the way, we ran into a couple who had a flat tire on their ATV.  We stopped for about 30 minutes to help them and visit with them.

As we continuted down the road, we noticed signs around that said, "Watch Out for Runners".  I guess they were have some sort of mountain race up there.  It would be a pretty place to run but steep and tiring.  We drove down the road a little ways to stop and eat lunch at a warming hut.

The one thing that makes this ride unique is that there are bugs everywhere.  If you stop in certain areas, you will have bugs flying all around you.  We picked a decent spot for lunch, that didn't have too many bugs.  After lunch, we headed to the top of the mountain.
There is one part of the ride that is kind of scary.  It is about 200 yards long and it has a steep dropoff on the one side.  As long as you are careful and go slow, you will be fine.  The day we went up, there was a young man that was intoxicated and he drove himself off that cliff by accident.
When we got to the top, we noticed thousands of flying bugs.  As we got closer and slowed down, we realized that they were lady bugs.  They must have been migrating to the valley.  I have never seen so many lady bugs.  They were all over our machines and ourselves.  There were a few snow patches on top of the mountain.  We played in the snow for a little while.  Cooper and Bryce had a snow ball fight.  The boys tackled their dad in the snow.  It was so beautiful up there.  It overlooks Cache Valley.
On the way back to the cars, I let Cooper drive the last 5 miles.  He can do it for a little while but then he gets tired.  He did a good job though.  I want to teach him how to drive and be a safe and aware driver.  We would rather him learn to be cautious than to be out of control like so many other drivers.
