Richfield Day #1

We left on Thursday morning after we got Cooper to school and dropped Clayton off at Jacqui's house.  We met the group down in Nephi at the Subway.  After a healthy turkey sandwich and some spicy Doritos, we hit the road to finish the last 70 miles of the trip to Richfield.
We stopped at the hotel to drop off our luggage and change into our "riding" clothes. For our first ride, we headed over to Marysvale.  On our way there, we passed Candy Rock Mountain.  It was one of the coolest looking mountains I have ever seen.  Jesus definitely was creative when he made this mountain!
We parked our trucks near the LDS chapel and then took a winding trail about 5 miles over to a gravel road.  From here, we headed up towards the waterfall. The Fall colors this year are amazing and so brilliant.  It was such a perfect trip all around. Everyday, the temps were right around 80 and full sunshine....much better from last years 50 degree temps and rain...we were so thankful for the warm weather!
As we made our way up to the waterfall, there was a beautiful river that ran along the trail.  It was really pretty as the water cascaded off the boulders and sparkled in the sunlight.  There were quite a few old huts that were made out of logs.  Most of them were in bad condition, but it was neat to see how they were built.
Once we got to the top, we parked our wheelers and took a 400 yard walk to the "falls".  They were so pretty and there was a cool mist coming off the pool at as we went down there for pictures.  There was not really a trail down to the bottom of the falls, so we just were careful as we climbed down the rocks and made our way to the bottom.
It was nice to be able to get a little exercise while we were out riding. It doesn't happen very often that we get to hike when we are on the trails.  Bryce climbed up to the top of the waterfall.  He looked small compared the the waterfall and trees.
As we went back down the waterfall trail, we came across some deer and fawns.  They crossed over the river and ate grass on the other side. We decided to head up the trail and see where it would lead.  We saw so many beautiful Aspen trees and I kept wanting to stop and take pictures of them, but I decided to wait till I got just the "right" picture.
We came around a bend in the trail and all of a sudden it was like the heavens had opened and the angels were singing.  It was so breathtaking as the sunlight was shining through the golden quaky Aspens.  And there wasn't just one or two, it was a grove of "glowing" Aspens.  The pictures do not do justice to the actual scene!
After taking pictures there, we kept going up the trail till we were on top of the world (if felt like it anyway)! We turned around there and headed back down. There are so many side trails up there, so we decided to take one of them.  It ended up being a half mile ride down to a gorgeous overlook of the valley and another small waterfall.  By this time, it was starting to cool down and we all had on our jackets and hoodies.
I was freezing, so Bryce took that lead and we headed back to the trucks.  We actually caught off about 5 miles or 30 minutes on our ride back, by taking the main road back to where we started.  We went to the big cabin restaurant to eat dinner that night. The women were all a little chilled from the ride, so some of them ordered hot chocolate with dinner.  The food was great.  We went back to the hotel, where we hit the hot tub and then crashed for the night.
